Keyed reed organs

Keyed reed organs were the earliest organs that Wurlitzer manufactured. When a key is pressed, the reed vibrates, and the vibration is turned into an electric signal via an electrostatic pickup.

Free reed organs are similar to keyed reed organs, but air vibrates the reeds continuously—not just when a key is pressed. This ensures a faster attack, more similar to a Hammond tonewheel organ.
